Affiliate 30 - Classical guitarist - Brian  Perkins

Brian Perkins is a classical guitarist of outstanding natural ability. From an early age he was demonstrating his prowess at various competitions around the country including Cheltenham in 1981 where he won the Memorial Trophy. During this period he also attended master classes to further his musical skills with established international artists such as Carlos Bonnell. In 1983 his playing was recognised academically by the Birmingham Conservatoire when he was awarded a Recital Diploma, the college's highest award at the time. In 1986 Brian made his debut as a concerto soloist playing Rodrigo`s Aranjuez concerto and has continued to be in demand for this role ever since. A critic wrote on one occasion, "…the highlight of the evening was Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with soloist Brian Perkins' most admirable performance." Brian has also played on radio and television. He has appeared on BBC one and has made regular live and recorded broadcasts on many radio stations, including, in 1996 on Radio 3. Brian has furthered his reputation with some recordings of the highest calibre. These include his collaboration with British composer Peter Nuttall to produce an album of his most well known works to date and 'Musica del Mundo' a compilation of guitar music from all over the world. Brian has also featured on other recordings including an album of flute and guitar duos and trios with CBSO flautist Margaret Campbell. Brian`s yearly UK recital series has for many become a fixed date in their musical calendar, with his relaxed style in performance and a rich and varied programme designed to cater for a wide range of musical tastes.
